A Nuremberg small strongbox (ca. 1540)
Rectangular box made of forged iron sheets. Surrounded by massive reinforcement straps with stud rivets. The hinged lid with three hasps and small triangular locks. On both sides moveable handle rings.
Elaborate lock mechanism with two secret locks. On the front a concealed key hole with secret release device. The inside with intricately worked locking mechanism, which reveals the central strap of the lid. On the front a second secret mechanism: when a rivet is turned, a double latch is moved.
The lid with elaborate locking mechanism with four catches. All lock parts are finely chiselled and fastened by decorative rivets. Size 16 x 10 x 9,5 cm.
