Last weekend, the Los Angeles gallery Giant Robot opened “Haunts,” a two-person show by Rob Sato and John Pham. Borrowing from popular sci-fi, both artists create images that reference cartoons and comic books, spinning these narrative media into refined abstraction. Sato’s watercolors of surreal scenes and futuristic objects are filled with motion and action, while Pham’s geometric works recall the light sculptures of the 1970s with their placid, glowing effect. Take a look at some of the works in the show, images courtesy of Giant Robot.
