Jean-Marie Vives is well known for his work in cinema and advertising. His surrealistic approach to digital compositing is very imaginative. Matte paintings were originally done on glass and aided in movie production and allowing filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that would have been impossible to find. Matte painters today combine their digitally matte painted textures within computer-generated 3-D environments. Digital technology has progressed since the days of painting on glass, making it far easier to add in objects or remove them from these cinematic environments, making room for the green screen.
